iOS 16 Update Impacts Caller Name Display On Incoming Calls

September 16, 2022 8:00 AM

McLean, Va., Sept. 16, 2022 – Numeracle Inc. (“Numeracle” or the “Company”), the pioneer of Verified Identity™ for communications, today announced the iOS 16 iPhone software update released this week does not support caller authentication information expected under the TRACED Act

Available to all iPhone users, iOS 16 includes many new device-level personalization features, improvements to the lock and home screen, new app-level features, additional security and accessibility functions, and more. However, the display of caller name information available at the network level for verified brands has been negatively impacted.

Comparison of Caller Name Displayed on the Incoming Call Screen

Compared to previous software releases, the caller name of the incoming caller displayed via iOS 16, versus previous releases, now displays in a smaller gray font below the incoming phone number. Before the iOS 16 update, caller name was displayed prominently in a larger white font instead of the phone number.

Comparison of a Branded Call Displayed in the Missed Call Log

In iOS 15, a branded call displays the caller name in the missed call log versus iOS 16, where a call from the same branded number only displays the phone number.

When selecting the blue information button on the right-hand side of the missed call log, iOS 15 and iOS 16 display branding information identically in the missed call information screen.

The software update only impacts the display of incoming and missed calls branded at the enterprise level via call branding solutions available across top wireless carriers. This change does not impact the display size or position of any caller name contact information entered manually by the iPhone user into the Contact list on an individual device.

By reducing the font size and de-prioritizing the display of vetted brand information displayed to iPhone users via iOS 16, this software release suggests a step back in support of federally-backed initiatives to return trust and transparency to incoming calls. The change in size and placement of identity caller name information displays a lack of effort to pass authenticated caller information along to the consumer at the time of the call as expected by the TRACED Act.

While impacting incoming caller name display to iPhones on iOS16, branded call display on Android devices remains unchanged. For more information on branded call display capabilities across wireless networks and mobile devices, visit
